R.I.P. Colonel Meow. The popular Persian-Himalayan cross pussy with the stern expression has died at the age of two, his owner announced on Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been released.
Owner Anne Marie Elvey wrote on his Facebook site: “Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening. I will post more about the details when I've had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both. -Slave Beast.”
Back in November, Colonel Meow’s owner announced that he was ill after undergoing a risky surgery and blood transfusion
His fan page said: “Minions!!! Colonel needs YOU. He has been in the hospital and the doctors don't really understand what's wrong with him. He needs YOU to send your amazingly good energy, vibes, and prayers. He has already survived a 50/50 chance surgery, a blood transfusion that they THOUGHT would send him into heart failure and now we need YOU to get him out of the woods. He's a Colonel. And right now he needs his soldiers. Spread that frown and send your recovery and healing vibes ASAP. He told me it was an order.”
Colonel Meow’s minions donated over $20,000 to pay for his medical costs and he was released from the hospital a week later.
Dubbed the “World’s Angriest Cat,” Meow became famous in late 2012 after Anne Marie posted photos of him, with his distinctive stern expression, online.
The cat was adopted in October 2011 after Anne Marie found him on the side of the road in Seattle. Soon, the Los Angeles resident discovered that her cat, whose angry eyes and furrowed brow made him look mean, could be a source of entertainment for users online.
“I just wake up every morning and I can barely think and I look over at him and he makes me laugh out loud,” Avey told ABCNews. "It's one of those moments where every time I look at him I get a chuckle and I thought that should be shared with everybody.”
That’s when Avey started a Facebook page for Meow, which has amassed nearly 350,000 likes.
“He had all these types of faces and positions he would get into and I just had to share it,” said Avey, admitting that Meow is a “really easygoing and chill” cat.
Colonel Meow was also awarded a Guinness World Record last August for having the world’s longest fur.
