Health Benefits Of Cats

THIS will come as no surprise to cat owners but people who own a cat are, generally speaking, cleverer than those who own dogs!

Studies have shown that cat owners have a higher IQ and are better educated. Although, before we get too excited, it's probably because smarter people tend to work longer hours and want pets that are easy to look after and can be left for the day.

But there other definite benefits to sharing your life with cats. Some are obvious like having companionship and someone to talk to (even if they don't fully understand!).

What is more comforting that having a cat settle on your lap, purring away. And it seems that a cat's purr has positive health effects. A cat purrs withing the range of 20-140 Hertz and it's been shown that these vibrations lower stress, help dyspnoea (breathlessness), decrease the chances of having a heart attack and strengthen bones.

According to today’s infographic, our feline friends provide us with more than just emotional support. House cats may actually be contributing to our physical well-being. When a cat purrs within a range of 20-140 Hertz, nearby humans may be therapeutically benefiting from these vibrations. Purring has been linked to lowering stress, decreasing symptoms of Dyspnoea, lessening the chances of having a heart attack, and even strengthening bones.

Owning a cat reduces stress with the consequent effect on health. Less stress means a decreased incidence of heart troubles. One ten-year study revealed that cat owners were 30 per cent less likely to die of a heart attack or stroke than non-cat owners.

Here's a positive benefit for you men looking for a woman. A poll found that 82 per cent of single women of were more attracted to men who like animals. Of those, 90 per cent thought men who owned a cat were “nicer” than other mens. They believed men with cats  were more sensitive and thoughtful.

They say laughter is the best medicine and various studies have shown that having a good laugh has a positive healing benefits. Anyone who owns a cat will know how often they make you laugh with their antics!
