Kitten Shower At Battersea

Please adopt me!

Who could resist the appeal of this little chap?

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London, UK, has seen a 30 per cent increase in unwanted kittens over the summer. In an effort to get some of them adopted, the home is holding a Kitten Shower.

What a brilliant idea!

Visitors can meet some of the adorable kittens. They will also get the chance to meet current residents in the kitten crèche. There is an opportunity to name some of the new arrivals, and there will be arts and crafts for children of all ages to enjoy.

Visitors can also get suitably dressed for the occasion with face painting and put their knowledge of feline facts to the test in a fun quiz.

The Kitten Shower takes place at the height of Kitten Season, which is when hundreds of cats and litters find themselves in rescue centres like Battersea in need of new homes.

Battersea’s head of cattery Lindsey Quinlan, says: “Our kitten shower is a perfect family day out and also a brilliant opportunity to meet our kittens and learn about what it takes to look after a pet.

“It may come as a surprise that just one cat can produce up to 150 kittens in her lifetime - that’s a lot of little mouths to feed.

"At this time of year, hundreds of unwanted kittens and their mums end up at rescue centres like Battersea either as strays or when owners have not had their pet neutered and they then need round-the-clock care before they can be rehomed.

“We can’t wait to see lots of crafty cat lovers at our exclusive summer event and we hope it will encourage people to rehome a cat from Battersea to give them the second chance they so deserve.”

The Kitten Shower is on Thursday 23 July.  Two sessions will run throughout the day from 10.30am until 1pm and 2pm until 4.30pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children ( aged 3-15 years), entry is free for under 3s.  Entry tickets for the kitten crèche are an additional £1 per person and issued on a first come, first served basis on the day.

All money raised goes towards caring for lost, abandoned and unwanted animals.

  1. That sounds like an awesome idea indeed. 150 kittens, whoa, that would be a lot of mouthes to feed

  2. What a great idea! We hope lots of people come to see and interact with the kittens and have a wonderful time adopting some. How could they not? KITTENS!

  3. How delightful! I wish all the best for the animals. Here in the US, I've discovered a wonderfully dedicated cat rescuer. In case you're interested, you can find her blog here: Best wishes!

  4. That's a great idea. I hope they all find homes.

  5. Wonderful idea I do hope lots of the kittens find forever homes. I would love a kitten but hubby not keen on cats.

  6. That’s a great idea. A FB friend was saying her shelter refused to do one.

  7. We hope the shower is a huge success.

  8. This is a great idea and wonderful how caring people are when we seem to only hear the negative

  9. This is a great idea and sounds like a fun event. Our local shelter and animal rescue organizations where I live hold about four events a year to find forever homes for the abandoned pets. They've never had a kitten shower though.

  10. Kitten showers sound like so much fun! I've been trying to get my shelter to host one, too.

  11. What a fun event! We hope that it is a huge success and helps to get lots of kittens adopted!
