Oscar Gets A Hitch-hiker

Oscar and his hitch-hiker!

A BABY ringtail possum has been discovered clinging to a cat "for dear life" in a Melbourne backyard.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) worker found the tiny native animal after hearing his cat Oscar meowing loudly outside his home.

The baby possum had become separated from its mother and seemingly jumped aboard Oscar the cat for "warmth and company", an MFB spokeswoman said.

The possum was then delicately removed from the cat and taken to a vet, who contacted wildlife carers.

The baby is recovering well and will be cared for until it is ready to be released back into the wild.

  1. Animals are so amazing. Humans could really learn so much from them. Thanks for sharing this story.

  2. That is a sweet story, glad he was rescued. And Oscar was not harmed.

  3. I wonder how Oscar felt about his passenger.

  4. Oh my goodness, this is so cute and sweet. I'm glad the baby is cared for. I have a feeling his mom died or he fell off by accident. If he wouldn't have found the pussy cat, he would have died.

  5. Oh my gosh, I'm surprised kitty allowed the baby possum to cling on like that. It's good to hear the baby was taken in and cared for.

  6. OMC Good kitty.

    Luv ya'
